Levy Craig’s Summer Internship Program
Looking for a real-world internship? One where you attend trials, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, depositions – even meet with clients? A paying position that lets you explore all types of practice areas – from family law to construction law? And, upon completion, one that gives you a clearer picture of what your own career might look like? Then, you want to experience an internship at Levy Craig. The firm where clients retain their edge also can help you find yours.
These frequently asked questions will tell you more about Levy Craig’s summer internship program …
Who is eligible to apply?
We receive applications from across the country. Plus, each fall we conduct on-campus interviews at the University of Kansas and University of Missouri-Kansas City, and we proudly participate in the Heartland Diversity Legal Job Fair. Two interns have come from that annual event alone. For more, visit www.heartlanddiversity.org.
Can you describe the selection process?
After we review all the applications, we typically narrow the group to about five. We look for candidates in the top 20 percent of their classes. We also consider Moot Court or Law Review experience a plus. Those who are selected are invited to our downtown Kansas City office to meet with our recruiting committee. Based on their input, we may hire two to four interns each summer.
Is it a paid position?
Yes. You’ll find our intern salary very competitive – and we pay for parking, too.
What can I expect the first day?
Good question and, no, we don’t just throw you in. All of our summer interns begin the same day. It’s like having your own intern class. We get you acquainted during a day-long orientation where you have the opportunity to meet each other, our staff and our attorneys, check out your work space, and learn where to park and find the best lunch spots, among other things.
During the first week, you’ll also be matched with a mentor and the summer associate coordinator who assigns projects and makes sure you have the right amount and variety of work.
What are the hours?
Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., but you’ll have a flexible schedule.
Where will I work?
You’ll have an office at our downtown Kansas City location, but you’ll also have the opportunity to work at our satellite offices in Overland Park, Kan., and Gladstone, Mo.
What will I gain from your program?
We’ll help you find your edge. While some students leave internships just as confused as when they started, our goal is to help you develop a clearer understanding of your talents … a clearer understanding of what practice areas energize you – and, perhaps more important, which ones don’t. We’ll even let you spent a day shadowing an attorney from a specific practice area. We believe in giving our interns plenty of practical experience. It’s how you make informed decisions and bring your future into view.
How do I apply for an internship at Levy Craig?
If you are a student at KU or UMKC law schools, please sign up to interview with us when we are on campus. If you are a student at another law school, please send us your resume, transcript and a writing sample. Please address your inquiries to our Recruiting Coordinator.
